Baseball Recap: Washburn Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central Magnet, Washburn was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Oliver Springs Bobcats with a sharp 10-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Matthew Harville was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Washburn's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was David Bailey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Washburn has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Oliver Springs, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9-1 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washburn will take on Fulton at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Oliver Springs, they will venture away from home to square off against Central Magnet at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
