Softball Recap: J.F. Webb Victorious

While J.F. Webb's victory against Vance County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. J.F. Webb skirted past Vance County 8-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-11 last Tuesday.

Terrie Thornton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off eight hits. Those 19 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Simone Ovando was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Zikerra Reed was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for J.F. Webb and bumps their season record up to 4-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Vance County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, J.F. Webb will welcome Warren County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Vance County, they are taking a road trip to take on Carrboro at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
