Baseball Recap: Union City Drops Season-High Score on Seton Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union City). They blew past the Seton Catholic Cardinals 23-3 on Monday. The Indians have beaten the Cardinals the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cardinals has come to flipping the script.

Colton Emrick made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Union City is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Emrick was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Lutz, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brayden Huggins, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Union City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matches.

Union City's record is now 9-10. As for Seton Catholic, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Union City will face off against Mississinawa Valley at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seton Catholic, they will take on Northeastern at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
