Basketball Recap: Commerce Skates Past Stephens County with Ease

While Commerce didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Stephens County Indians 65-22. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-6.

Commerce got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Niya Daniels out in front who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Daniels has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenyanna Jackson, who posted 15 points and seven rebounds.

Commerce smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Commerce's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their offensive performance: the team's won by an average of 41.7 points thus far. As for Stephens County, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Commerce will welcome Mountain View at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Stephens County, they are taking a road trip to face off against West-Oak at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
