Basketball Recap: Cooperstown Beats Poland for Their 16th Straight Victory

Cooperstown put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past the Poland Tornadoes with points to spare, taking the game 74-58. Given the Hawkeyes' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 455th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cooperstown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Lawson, who posted 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. Lawson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Miles Nelen, who put up 17 points and three steals.

Cooperstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 32 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Cooperstown pushed their record up to 16-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Poland, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cooperstown has already played their next contest (against Waterville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Poland has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against South Lewis.
