Basketball Recap: Pender Comes Up Short

Pender suffered their closest loss since February 7, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Whiteville Wolfpack by a score of 47-44. The defeat continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Pender lost, don't look at Ryan Howell. Despite the final result, he posted 18 points in addition to six boards and five blocks. Howell has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Hansley, who scored eight points and four steals.

Pender's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Whiteville, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-5.

Pender won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against West Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pender is facing West Columbus at the right time seeing as West Columbus is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
