Softball Game Preview: Bradley-Bourbonnais Boilermakers vs. Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings

Bradley-Bourbonnais is a perfect 10-0 against Homewood-Flossmoor since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Boilermakers will face off against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Bradley-Bourbonnais' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Homewood-Flossmoor's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bradley-Bourbonnais is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Lincoln-Way West on Friday. They fell 3-0 to the Warriors. The defeat continues a trend for the Boilermakers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Lydia Hammond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bradley-Bourbonnais saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shannon Lee, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Homewood-Flossmoor fell victim to Lincoln-Way Central and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 9-0 to the Knights. The shutout was out of character for the Vikings seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Bradley-Bourbonnais' loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Homewood-Flossmoor's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Bradley-Bourbonnais has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Homewood-Flossmoor, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Bradley-Bourbonnais keep running through batters, or will the Vikings buck the trend?

Bradley-Bourbonnais took their victory against Homewood-Flossmoor in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Boilermakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
