Softball Recap: San Juan Comes Up Short

San Juan had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it 13. They came up short against the Lindhurst Blazers, falling 14-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 26-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

As for Lindhurst, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Lindhurst's part, Abella Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Ramirez has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Evelyn Kupser and Kimberly Diaz-Valadez did most of the damage at the plate: Kupser got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Diaz-Valadez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That double was Kupser's first of the season. Gisele Thao was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

While San Juan had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
