Soccer Game Preview: Princeton vs. Greenbrier East

Princeton is 2-8 against Greenbrier East since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Tigers will head out to take on the Spartans at 8:00 p.m.

Princeton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Ripley, who was ranked 25th at the time (Princeton was ranked 16th). The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 2-2 draw on Saturday. The result (or lack thereof) was the first time Princeton have been dealt a draw since back in September.

Ashton Jones was the only thing that stood between Princeton and a shutout considering he scored both of Princeton's goals, bringing his season total up to 13 goals.

Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Greenbrier East had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past Shady Spring 6-2 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for Greenbrier East, who have now won eight contests by three goals or more so far this season.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Greenbrier East, bringing their record up to 12-6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 25 goals over those four matchups. Princeton's draw gives them a new season record of 11-6-3.

Princeton came up short against Greenbrier East in their previous meeting back in September, falling 3-1. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
