Softball Game Preview: Shiprock Chieftains vs. Aztec Tigers

Shiprock hasn't had much luck against Aztec recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Chieftains will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Shiprock has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Shiprock is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Miyamura, falling 12-1.

Meanwhile, Aztec waltzed into their game on Tuesday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They never let the Bengals get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by exactly ten runs.

Reagan Bradshaw was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayci Phillips, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Aztec always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Aztec pushed their record up to 13-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Shiprock, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Shiprock might still be hurting after the 20-2 loss they got from Aztec in their previous matchup last Tuesday. Can the Chieftains avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
