Softball Recap: Jacksonville Takes a Loss

Jacksonville came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Marshall Mavericks by a score of 16-14 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Fightin' Indians have suffered since February 21st.

Ryan Ramirez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored four runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-5. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Mahala Sotelo was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Jacksonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marshall only posted a batting average of .267.

Jacksonville has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. The victory snapped Marshall's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-9 record.

Coincidentally, Jacksonville and Marshall will both be playing Lufkin the next time they take the field. Marshall will head out to face Lufkin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while Jacksonville will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
