Basketball Game Preview: Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears vs. Homer Mariners

The Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears and the Homer Mariners will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Juneau-Douglas is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Soldotna, who was ranked fifth at the time (Juneau-Douglas was ranked 15th). Juneau-Douglas strolled past Soldotna with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 64-49. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Crimson Bears as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Homer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to Palmer on the road by a 78-60 margin.

Homer's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Juneau-Douglas, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Juneau-Douglas strolled past Homer in their previous meeting back in January of 2019 by a score of 56-42. Will Juneau-Douglas repeat their success, or does Homer have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
