The Dawson Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Friendswood Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Dawson comes in on 16 and Friendswood on ten.
While Dawson's victory against Manvel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Mavericks 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Mavericks since October 4, 2016.
Dawson had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-9.
Meanwhile, Friendswood made easy work of Angleton on Friday and carried off a 3-0 win.
Friendswood's got stronger as the match went on, holding Angleton to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-17, 25-12.
Friendswood's win came from a few key players Dawson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Haley Patton, who had 11 digs and six assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ashley Adams, who had 11 assists and four digs.
Friendswood was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 14 consecutive matchups.
Dawson's record now sits at 36-4. As for Friendswood, their record is now 33-8.
