Recap: Gloucester Dukes vs. Heritage Hurricanes
The Gloucester Dukes''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 47-19 defeat at the hands of Heritage. Gloucester was down 26-6 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Heritage can attribute much of their success to Tyree Wilson, who rushed for 89 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Wilson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Heritage also got a significant boost from Rayshawn Pierce-malone, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 110 yards.
Gloucester's defeat was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.5 points per game. As for Heritage, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5.
Gloucester will be playing at home against Woodside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodside comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Heritage, they will head out on the road to face off against Kecoughtan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (Kecoughtan is ranked 176th, while Heritage is ranked 159th).
