Basketball Recap: Peninsula Catholic's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Peninsula Catholic waltzed into their contest on Saturday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 59-58 win over the Benedictine Cadets. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Cadets are ranked 134th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Peninsula Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylen Wynn led the charge by putting up 19 points. Wynn's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Hunter, who posted 15 points.

Peninsula Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Benedictine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13.

Peninsula Catholic will head out on the road to challenge Norfolk Collegiate at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Norfolk Collegiate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season. As for Benedictine, they are taking a road trip to square off against Trinity Episcopal at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Trinity Episcopal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
