Baseball Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Plant City Raiders

The Sumner Stingrays are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they will take on the Plant City Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sumner is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 9, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Plant, falling 10-1. The loss continues a trend for the Stingrays in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.

Sumner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Parson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, while Plant City put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Tampa Bay Tech. Everything went Plant City's way against Tampa Bay Tech as Plant City made off with an 11-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Hagan Smith looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Eli Thomas was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alex Rodriguez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Plant City's record now sits at 2-0. As for Sumner, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Sumner was able to grind out a solid win over Plant City in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumner since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
