Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Oak Grove's Winning Streak

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Oak Grove can now relate to. They lost 3-0 to the Hickory Red Tornadoes on Saturday. The Grizzlies' defeat signaled the end of their 18-game winning streak.

Oak Grove was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-10, 25-22.

Sydney Williams paced Oak Grove's offense, picking up ten kills. Williams got some help from Hollis Fitzgerald and her 19 assists. Finally, Kalin Favreau kept Oak Grove's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Hickory can attribute much of their success to Ella Kate Stewart, who had 14 digs and one assist. Stewart has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Oak Grove's loss dropped their record down to 23-4. As for Hickory, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 33-4.

As of now, neither Oak Grove nor the Red Tornadoes have any future games scheduled.
