Baseball Recap: Jerome Comes Up Short

Jerome was the 15-4 winner over Columbia when they last played one another back in March of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Tigers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.

Jerome saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xaiden Van Tassell, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Van Tassell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another was Jace Stephenson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Jerome and nudges their season record down to 2-5. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Columbia, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Looking ahead, Jerome will take on Skyview at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Columbia, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hillcrest at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
