Softball Recap: Goreville's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Goreville brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They put the hurt on the Vienna Eagles with a sharp 14-8 win on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Blackcats as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Breanna (Brea) Suits was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Goreville let Emma Rogers and Elisabeth Trainor run wild. Rogers went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Trainor went 3-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Rogers has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Chamness, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Goreville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vienna only managed eight hits.

Goreville's record is now 8-13. As for Vienna, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.

Goreville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
