Softball Game Preview: Bishop O'Dowd Dragons vs. Encinal Jets

Bishop O'Dowd has gone a perfect 9-0 against Encinal recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Dragons are taking a road trip to challenge the Jets at 4:00 p.m. Bishop O'Dowd is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Bishop O'Dowd and Alameda have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Dragons came up short against the Hornets, falling 10-0. The shutout was out of character for the Dragons seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Bishop O'Dowd saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaella Mercado, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Mercado has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

Meanwhile, Encinal came up short against Cardinal Newman on Tuesday and fell 4-1. The Jets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Encinal's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Bishop O'Dowd, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6.

Bishop O'Dowd was able to grind out a solid win over Encinal when the teams last played back in March, winning 9-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
