Basketball Recap: Calan Hughes Key Part of a Team Effort in Tigers Win

Hurricane hadn't done well against Dixie recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Hurricane Tigers came out on top against the Dixie Flyers by a score of 69-56. The Tigers pushed the score to 54-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Flyers cut but never quite recovered from.

Hurricane's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Calan Hughes, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Hughes a new career-high in blocks (four). RJ Hurst was another key player, putting up 19 points and four steals.

Dixie lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tyson Forsey, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 23 points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Walter, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Hurricane has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Dixie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Hurricane didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-48 loss against Desert Hills on the 20th. Dixie and Canyon View will round out the year against one another at at 8:00 p.m. on December 27th.
