Marshall took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Mattoon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Marshall narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mattoon 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since April 18, 2024.

Payton McGuire was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
