Baseball Game Preview: West Rebels vs. Powell Panthers

For the second straight game, West will face off against Powell. The Rebels will be playing at home against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Powell's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

West took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Powell, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rebels sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Panthers on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Rebels as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

For Powell's part, Sawyer Cummings was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Cummings was also big at the plate, going 1-for-6 with one home run. He is becoming a predictor of Powell's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 7-13 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jameson Bess made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run. Periclis Davila also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Powell has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for West, their win bumped their record up to 13-5-2.
