Softball Recap: Friday's Win Is Hoggard's Fourth in Last Five Outings

After losing to Topsail the last time they met, Hoggard decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Hoggard never let Topsail get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory on Friday. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Pirates on their field since April 27, 2021.

Macey Ciamillo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Addison Wilson was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Hoggard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.8 hits in those games compared to only five in the others. Topsail now has a losing record of 4-5.

Hoggard and Topsail could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Hoggard will challenge Midway at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday down 59 places (77 vs. 18). Meanwhile, Topsail (ranked 169th) will meet Laney (ranked 32nd) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
