Southeast was handed a three-set loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Waterloo Vikings 3-2. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Southeast wouldn't go down easily and took Waterloo into a fifth set where they got it done with a ten-point win. The final score came out to 15-25, 25-12, 25-20, 14-25, 15-5.

Leila Evans paced Southeast's offense, picking up 15 kills. Evans got some help from Neena Truex and her 34 assists. Finally, Evans was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Southeast's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Waterloo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season.

After both having extra time off, Southeast and Canton Central Catholic will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Waterloo, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against East Palestine on the 14th.
