League recap: St. Joseph-Ogden tops St. Thomas More to extend winning streak

Sangamon Valley recap Oct. 3, 2012

St. Joseph-Ogden extended the longest winning streak in Sangamon Valley this week by beating St. Thomas More, 27-20. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

The Sabers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,671 from 9,010. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 27-20 victory over St. Thomas More last week.

Momence's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron Cantwell threw for 136 and three touchdowns and Blake Lawerence had 62 yards receiving. On the ground Deandre Wright chipped in 223 yards. Josh Hess helped Momence's passing attack out by catching one ball for 34 yards.

St. Joseph-Ogden's Dalton Walsh and Louis Acklin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Walsh has thrown for 692 yards this season, while Acklin, a 6-foot-4 receiver, has 13 catches for 177 yards. Wright from the Redskins leads the league in rushing with 1198 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place St. Joseph-Ogden takes on second place Watseka. Last week, Dick Duval's team topped Dan Hennessey's team, while Watseka lost to Ridgeview.

Momence led Sangamon Valley in scoring this week after putting up 61 points on Iroquois West. Cantwell in the win.
