Football Recap: Aquilla Piles Up the Points Against Jonesboro

Aquilla strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past the Jonesboro Eagles 54-8. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by exactly 46 points.

Andrew Snipes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 65 yards and two scores on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Aquilla was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 303 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 241 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Aquilla didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zane Booth and TC Hennig. Hennig has been hot, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last seven times he's played.

Aquilla's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Jonesboro, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-3.

Coming up, Aquilla will square off against Bynum at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.2 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Jonesboro, they will take on Austin Royals HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Royals have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
