Recap: Thayer Central Titans vs. Republic County Buffaloes
The Thayer Central Titans had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They secured a 37-33 W over Republic County on Thursday. Given Thayer Central's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 50th in Nebraska, while Republic County is ranked 201st in Kansas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Thayer Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tegon Hergott, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Heitmann, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Republic County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Levi White, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Aden Morris, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Republic County struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Thayer Central racked up nine assists.
Thayer Central's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Republic County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thayer Central will take on Hanover at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Republic County, they will head out on the road to face off against Superior at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
