Baseball Game Preview: Howland Tigers vs. Lakeview Bulldogs

The Howland Tigers will face off against the Lakeview Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Howland's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

Last Monday, Howland got the win against Salem by a conclusive 14-1. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Quakers: they've now won four in a row.

Steven Bubon tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Howland's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Howland let Dominic Santee and Keaton Perry run wild. Santee scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Perry went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. The dominant performance also gave Santee a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Brayden Kovarik, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Howland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salem only posted an OBP of .263.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lakeview, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They skirted past Girard 3-2. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Bulldogs have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Lakeview saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Lantz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Lantz also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season.

Howland's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Lakeview, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
