Basketball Recap: Kiley Shatzel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jefferson Township over West Morris Mendham

Jefferson Township fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against West Morris Mendham on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Morris Mendham Minutemen. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Minutemen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Jefferson Township lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kiley Shatzel, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Barone, who made all 6 shots she took racking up 17 points and six assists.

Jefferson Township's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for West Morris Mendham, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-14 record this season.

Jefferson Township will host West Milford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. West Milford will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Jefferson Township surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Morris Mendham, they will face off against North Hunterdon on Wednesday. West Morris Mendham is facing North Hunterdon at the right time seeing as North Hunterdon is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
