Softball Recap: Clovis West Takes a Loss

Clovis West entered their game against Clovis East on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 4-3. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 4, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Aliya Swillis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophie Sullins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Haley Rangel was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Clovis West suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 11-3-1. As for Clovis East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-3-1 record this season.

Clovis West will head out to take on Buchanan at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Clovis East, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Clovis at 6:30 p.m. The Timberwolves are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
