Preview: Reno Huskies vs. Damonte Ranch Mustangs
Reno and Damonte Ranch are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Reno Huskies will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Damonte Ranch Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Reno was able to grind out a solid victory over McQueen, taking the game 48-39. The win was just what Reno needed coming off of a 79-51 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Damonte Ranch had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They put the hurt on Galena with a sharp 58-38 win. Given Damonte Ranch's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Galena is ranked 66th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Damonte Ranch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quinn Garrett led the charge by scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Ghisletta, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Reno's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-14. As for Damonte Ranch, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10.
Reno might still be hurting after the 65-41 defeat they got from Damonte Ranch in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Garrett, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Now that Reno knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
