Softball Recap: Jamestown Comes Up Short

Jamestown extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They lost 18-0 to the Fredonia Hillbillies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hillbillies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 last Monday.

As for Fredonia, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 12-2. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Fredonia's part, Danielle Palisin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Palisin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jenna Fryberger was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Naomi Muck, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Jamestown is set to challenge their familiar foe Salamanca at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Fredonia will take on rival Olean at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hillbillies are on a 12-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Huskies a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
