Recap: Bellevue East Chieftains vs. Gretna Dragons
The Bellevue East Chieftains scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. Everything went their way against Gretna as Bellevue East made off with a 82-62 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Bellevue East was led to victory by TNiyah Wilson-Smith and Jamyla Gilmore. Wilson-Smith scored 18 points along with six blocks, while Gilmore scored 20 points along with three blocks. The game was Wilson-Smith's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brani Jackson, who scored ten points along with seven assists and five steals.
Gretna's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Mcartor, who scored 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Maggie Miller, who scored 14 points.
Bellevue East's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Gretna, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Bellevue East is on the road again on Saturday and play against Omaha Central at 5:15 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Omaha Central is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Gretna won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Millard South at 10:15 a.m. on December 30, 2023. Millard South has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
