Two dominant guards in Morghan Reckley and Elyse Norris are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sandy Creek Patriots will be home for the holidays to greet the Trinity Christian Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. While Sandy Creek didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Newnan on Saturday as Sandy Creek made off with a 71-50 win. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 21 points or more this season.
Sandy Creek found their leader in freshman Reckley, who went 15 of 27 on her way to 39 points along with eight boards and six assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Reckley has scored at least a third of Sandy Creek's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Reckley, who went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points and three steals.
Sandy Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Trinity Christian took on Troup County on Tuesday. The game between Trinity Christian and Troup County didn't end well, with Trinity Christian falling 62-45.
Sandy Creek will need focus on slowing down Norris, one of several Trinity Christian players who made an impact when they last played. She posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Norris has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards.
Trinity Christian's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Sandy Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Sandy Creek hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64 points per game. However, it's not like Trinity Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 56.7 points.
