Basketball Recap: Cleveland Central Takes a Loss

Cleveland Central has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Greenville Hornets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wolves came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Hornets are ranked 94th).

Leading Greenville to victory were Marcus Peoples and Lucas Johnson. Peoples posted eight points in addition to nine blocks and six boards, while Johnson had 12 points. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of A'Tavius McChristion, who earned six points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Cleveland Central's loss dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Greenville, with the win, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-11.

Cleveland Central will head out on the road to square off against Canton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Canton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Greenville, they will welcome Gentry at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenville is facing Gentry at the right time seeing as Gentry is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
