Volleyball Recap: Notre Dame's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Notre Dame's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Valley Lumberjacks, sneaking past 3-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Fighting Irish as it spelled an end to their four-match losing streak.

Notre Dame was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (99-96), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 14-25, 25-20, 15-25, 17-15.

Notre Dame's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophie Gum led the charge by getting 34 digs, 11 kills, ten aces, and seven blocks. Those 34 digs gave Gum a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Fryer, who had 42 digs and four aces.

Notre Dame's win bumped their record up to 9-19. As for Valley, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Notre Dame will face off against Cameron at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
