Basketball Recap: Thomas Sumter Academy Falls to Lee Academy in First Game of Season

Thomas Sumter Academy kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to the Lee Academy Cavaliers. The Generals' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Thomas Sumter Academy lost, don't look at Malayia English. Despite the final result, she posted 26 points. Natalie Saphore was another key player, putting up nine points.

Lee Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karagan Melton, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mazie Tomlinson, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Thomas Sumter Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 40-19 victory against Holly Hill Academy on the 4th. Lee Academy has also already played their next matchup, a 32-30 defeat against Williamsburg Academy on the 4th.
