Football Recap: Parker Thundering Herd vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets
Parker had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 20-7 win over the Oxford Yellow Jackets on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Thundering Herd as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Parker got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Terence Gaines Jr out in front who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. Gaines Jr's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. Parker also got a significant boost from Chancellor Sparks, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 107 yards.
Another reason for the win was Parker's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Jourdin Crawford was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Keshuan Johnson was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles and snagged an interception.
Parker was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 303 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oxford only rushed for -11.
Oxford's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Wynn, who picked up 103 receiving yards and a touchdown. Wynn showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 53 yards.
Parker's record now sits at 13-1. As for Oxford, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 13-1.
Parker will face off against Saraland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Saraland will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Parker surely won't give up without a fight. Oxford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
