Winter Park gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 48-39 win over the Melbourne Bulldogs. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Winter Park got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rowan Duberke out in front who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Seay, who put up ten points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.
Winter Park was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Melbourne only posted five.
Despite the defeat, Melbourne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elena Neel earned 18 points along with seven boards and four steals. Neel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last eight games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmella Aviles, who had seven points and six rebounds.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winter Park will take on University at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Melbourne, they will challenge East River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
