Basketball Recap: Brimfield's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

While Brimfield didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They took down the St. Bede Bruins 54-37 on Friday. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while the Bruins are ranked 551st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win (which was Brimfield's fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points per game. As for St. Bede, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Brimfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Princeville at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Princeville is on a three-game streak of home wins, Brimfield a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for St. Bede, they will host Serena at 3:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
