Softball Game Preview: Cibola Cougars vs. Rio Rancho Rams

The Cibola Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Rio Rancho Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cibola is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Cibola is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Piedra Vista, who was ranked eighth at the time (Cibola was ranked fourth). The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-5.

Meanwhile, Rio Rancho entered their tilt with Volcano Vista on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 19-11 margin over the Hawks. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Cibola pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Rancho, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.

Cibola might still be hurting after the 18-9 defeat they got from Rio Rancho in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
