Eustis is a perfect 10-0 against Leesburg since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Carson Roden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
At the plate, Emmy Luke was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Powhida, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leesburg). They put the hurt on Wildwood with a sharp 27-2 win on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Yellow Jackets with their most commanding win of the season.
Cassidy Custer was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Ormani Mcghee was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Leesburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Eustis pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.2 runs. As for Leesburg, their record is now 5-0.
Leesburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Eustis has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Leesburg, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Eustis keep running through batters, or will Leesburg buck the trend?
Everything went Eustis' way against Leesburg in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, as Eustis made off with a 22-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eustis since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
