Football Recap: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans vs. Willcox Cowboys
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy came tearing into Friday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 45 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 27-21 victory over the Willcox Cowboys.
A big part of Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's win came down to the chemistry between Judah Mizysak and his top target Will Ryken. Mizysak threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes while Ryken picked up 168 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ryken really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 88 yards. Brendan Maclean was in the mix as well, providing Scottsdale Preparatory Academy with a touchdown.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy wouldn't let Willcox keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force four fumbles. Joey Allen (Ace) led the group effort, picking up two of those forced fumbles all by himself. He has been hot , having also posted seven or more total tackles the last eight times he's played. Another thorn in Willcox's side was Cyler Ellsworth, who made 13 total tackles.
Despite the loss, Willcox still got an impressive performance from Landon Ward, who rushed for 184 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Ward also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending two passes.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.2 points per game. As for Willcox, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-4 record.
Scottsdale Preparatory Academy will square off against San Tan Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have allowed few points on average, (Scottsdale Preparatory Academy: 10.7, San Tan Charter: 11.7) so any points scored will be well earned. Willcox does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
