Basketball Recap: Sequoyah Drops Season-High Score on Cherokee

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sequoyah). They came out on top against the Cherokee Warriors by a score of 84-76 on Tuesday. This was payback for the Chiefs, who suffered a 64-51 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sequoyah was led to victory by Carly Bass and Jayden Whelchel. Bass shot 52% from the field to rack up 33 points and eight boards, while Whelchel went 8-for-12 en route to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 33 points gave Bass a new career-high. Ella Casing was another key player, putting up five points along with 11 assists and three steals.

Sequoyah now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Cherokee, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Coming up, Sequoyah will challenge Riverwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chiefs will be up against the Raiders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 58.14 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Cherokee, they will square off against Marietta at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors' defense better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 82.8 points per game this season.
