Preview: Northwest Vikings vs. Boone Central Cardinals
Northwest is 3-0 against Boone Central since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Northwest Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Boone Central Cardinals at 5:45 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of three wins, Northwest's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to St. Cecilia 34-30. Northwest has struggled against St. Cecilia recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Northwest's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kyla Sybrandts, who scored eight points along with two steals, and Jolie O?hara who scored nine points along with two steals. O?hara is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Haylee Brandt, who scored six points.
Northwest struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Boone Central's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 40-28 to Centura.
Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Boone Central, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
Northwest took their victory against Boone Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 46-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northwest since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
