Softball Recap: Fairmont Firebirds vs. Springfield Wildcats
Fairmont won the last time they faced Springfield and things went their way on Monday too. The Firebirds walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Wildcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Firebirds.

Jaylin Turner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Carlee Netherton and Paige Russell did most of the damage at the plate: Netherton went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Russell went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Amy Osman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Fairmont's record now sits at 10-6. As for Springfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairmont will challenge Miamisburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Springfield, they will take on Beavercreek at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Beavers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
