Woodland hasn't had much luck against Pinewood Prep recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Woodland Wolverines will take on the Pinewood Prep Panthers in a tournament on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five losses in a row dating back to last season, Woodland turned things around against Branchville on Friday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Thomas Martin and Mac Milligan did most of the damage at the plate: Martin went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI, while Milligan scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Woodland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Branchville only posted an OBP of .348.
Meanwhile, Pinewood Prep's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bluffton a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Panthers have won three games by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Max Poulakis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Pinewood Prep got a massive performance out of Camden Abernathy, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, Abernathy posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Grady Fuller was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Pinewood Prep's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Woodland, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
