Pinecrest and Hoke County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Patriots will host the Bucks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinecrest has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pinecrest fell victim to Scotland and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 14-0 to the Fighting Scots. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Hoke County came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bucks have posted against the Vikings since February 27, 2019.
Niya Jones spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bailey Mass was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Kalea Parker was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Mass wasn't the only one making solid contact: Hoke County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.
Hoke County pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Pinecrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pinecrest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Hoke County struggles in that department as they've averaged .335. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
