Basketball Recap: Evan Cox's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dwight over Fieldcrest + How To Watch

Dwight had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it five. They lost 75-55 to the Fieldcrest Knights. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while the Knights are ranked 148th).

Dwight's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Evan Cox, who posted nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Starks, who had 11 points and seven rebounds.

As for Fieldcrest, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Dwight: they've now won seven in a row.

Leading Fieldcrest to victory were Kash Klendworth and Layten Gerdes. Klendworth shot 52% from the field on his way to 27 points and six assists, while Gerdes went 9-for-13 to rack up 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kayden Eilts, who went 5-for-7 en route to 10 points and five rebounds.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Dwight will take on Midland in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fieldcrest, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Heyworth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
